Arm strength is one of the most important areas to focus on when it comes to your personal fitness. This is because when it comes to day-to-day living activities like picking up objects around the home and fine motor action like dining or writing, stable arm strength can help you do these everyday functions with ease.
For this reason, if you’re looking for simple arm exercises for loved ones or yourself to do, you’ve come to the right place. The exercises we’ll list below are easy enough for anyone to do. This is because the routine we recommend here is bodyweight-centric and does not require the use of complex gym equipment, just everyday household objects and furniture. As always, if you feel like you’re hurting yourself or these exercises are too uncomfortable for you, we strongly recommend you consult a health professional.
Elbow Curls
This exercise can be done either seated or standing. Cup your ears using your hands and keep your elbows pointing out away from your body, so that your entire figure is resembling the shape of a T. Whilst maintaining contact with your ears, bring the elbows of both arms together. If you’re not able to have them touch, simply bring them as close to each other as possible. Consider doing 5 sets of 30 repetitions each. This exercise is great for improving flexibility and shoulder-arm strength.
Arm Circles
Again, this exercise can be done either seated or standing. This time, raise your arm and stretch them out as far as you can reach. You will resemble a T shape again, but this time your hands will be outstretched. Begin to rotate your arms forwards in tiny circles. After 10 rotations, switch to medium-sized circles for another 10 rotations, and then as wide a circle as you can possibly rotate for a final set of 10 rotations. If you’re able to, then immediately do the same thing except in the reverse direction, though if you need a break then feel free to do so before continuing.
If the exercise feels a bit too easy, you can hold a water bottle in either hand to make the exercise a little more challenging. Alternatively, if you enjoy walking around outdoors, it can be fun to incorporate this exercise into your routine. Not only does it allow you to finish your workout faster, but it also makes it a little more challenging and hence more beneficial for your body.
